Future of ChastiKey

Hi,

For quite some time now I've been looking to move on from ChastiKey, after managing it on my own for 4 years in most of my spare time. I didn't want to just close down the app. I wanted to hand it over to the community, and have different people looking after different parts. The app has been a little harder to hand over, and hasn't gone as quickly as I had hoped so I have now decided to release the app code and server code for anyone to look at, in the hope that 2 or 3 similar apps are created to fill the void. I will be releasing the code this week to a small group first. This group has offered to look at the code to make sure there aren't any major weaknesses that could be exploited. After that it will be released for everyone to see.

Any app built around it will be released with a new name, but there will hopefully be one that will continue the ChastiKey name (assuming the developers want it). One that can work alongside the team that are now running the ChastiKey Discord server, in order to keep it alive and thriving.

I will in the meantime continue to run and manage the ChastiKey app with the hope of shutting it down by the middle to end of 2021, depending on the progress of developments with other apps.

As for your locks, stats, and history, there will hopefully be an option closer to the time that will let you transfer your data over to other apps, if the developers of those apps let you transfer the data across. That way you may not need to start again. This still needs to be worked out, and there's plenty of time to discuss that.

Will have to wait and see over the next couple of months if anyone starts to work on something.

Sorry to see you leaving the project, but I do understand you doing so. I hope that some with high programming skills will take over your "baby" and continue the excellent work you have put into this. I am extremely grateful for your time and dedication into this! I'm sure most it not all other users is to grateful too.

The future, but the new market crash would happen soon because it have been a while since last one, and no one, hopefully, really misses it

I hope some with programming skills is able to take over and continue running this app/project. The app do already have a lot of functionality, so future upgrades is mostly needed to support new OS etc. So it will run smoothly without hickups etc at least.

If I had the programming skill I would gladly taken the helm, but I suck at programming and never enjoyed that art. I am more capable of the hardware, normal OS and software support. Do have a few old MCP's behind med and done support for almost 25 years now,  but programming I cant do.

First things first - I'm devastated to hear the app is shutting down
Thank you for all the work you have put in so far!

How is it going finding someone to take over?

I'm a full-stack developer and looking for a new side project for during lockdown - maybe this is the one.

I had a look through the github code - thank you for sharing!

However, if I was to take up such a project, I would probably start from scratch with a laravel server and use a progressive web app or cordova for the client side (that way I could keep a fully functional web portal too).

Anyway, the question is whether someone else is going to take over your work and save me the hassle of 6 months development time?

There are two known developments in progress but one has gone a bit quiet and they wanted to work on their own.

The other development is an open source one that's very active which has 2 or 3 users working on it. They have their project on GitHub. I think the language is typescript but may be wrong. If you need information about it then let me know and I'll dig out some links. I don't think they're at a stage where it is close to working but they're very active.
